Writing about music is like dancing about architecture. It’s a really stupid thing to do. – Elvis Costello
Sorry, Elvis. We can’t all be musical geniuses. Some of us can only write about music.
For as long as I can remember, music has been an integral part of my life. And so has writing. These two passions came together often in an earlier, more personal blog. There and elsewhere on the Internet, I wrote extensively about my musical interests. Now, after three years of not doing much of that, I have decided to give it another shot. Because I really miss writing about music.
But the last thing I need is another blog to maintain. So instead, I’ve decided to create a subsection of higher ed marketing devoted exclusively to music. That way, I won’t be cluttering the main page with digressions about the genius of Joe Strummer, punk rock’s true origins or Girl Talk’s mad sampling skills. Well, I won’t be cluttering it much. I may occasionally digress into musical territory, but only when I think it’s remotely relevant to the subject of higher education and/or marketing, PR and the like.
So, this page is a sub-blog of sorts — a place where I can post some of my musings about music. Keeping it separate from the main blog will allow me to pursue this interest without diluting the main site.
If you’re a music aficionado, I encourage you to visit here from time to time to see what I’ve written. Comments will always be open.
